Production Assistant Tip #77 ASK DETAILED QUESTIONS

When you’re on set as a PA one of the most important things you can do is ask detailed questions. I am of the opinion that it is better to ask too many questions, rather than too few. As long as they are needed, there is no harm in double checking!!

Last week I was Key PA for a project and, even with over a dozen productions under my belt as a producer, I still asked for clarity or help when needed.

How many people was I buying crafty for? Were there any allergies I should be aware of? Did anyone need help? Did we have enough water? Where was the first aid kit?

Producers have always appreciated how thorough I am, because while it may seem like I’m taking up time to ask the questions, in reality I am saving time.

If you ask ahead of time you will always have enough food, water, know where the band aids are and that doing a trash sweep any time I have free is super helpful.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions as a PA! It shows that you care.

Ready to make the move from PA to producer? Let’s chat!
